Community Sings Lydell’s Praises in Establishing New Endowment Fund
The Norman D. Lydell Spirit Of A Cappella Award was recently established at Chautauqua Region Community Foundation to support graduating Jamestown High School seniors.
Rebecca Ann Capitano Award Carries on Legacy
Rebecca Ann Capitano and her husky mix Aurora lost their lives as a result of an automobile accident in early 2023. To keep Rebecca’s passion for animals alive in others, the Rebecca Ann Capitano Award will assist a graduating E2CCB senior in the small animal science program for their continued study in the animal sciences field.
Greg and Sue Jones Win Prestigious John D. Hamilton Award
The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Greg and Sue Jones have been selected as the 2023 recipients of the John D. Hamilton Community Service Award. A celebration event is scheduled for September 22 at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute (click here for ticket information).
A Legacy of Leadership, Led by Example
The Mike and Kathy Ricketts Leadership Fund will annually recognize adults demonstrating leadership with a monetary award that is administered by Chautauqua Leadership Network.
Chi Sig Supports Boys and Girls Club
Legacy members of Jamestown High School’s Chi Sigma Chi fraternity recently presented a donation to the Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys and Girls Club of Jamestown. The contribution was made in support of The Club’s commitment to offering youth a safe place to gather, work toward academic success, build good character and citizenship, and establish healthy lifestyles.
Scholarship Recipient Shows Great Promise
The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation awarded Sarah Wahlstrom over 30 scholarships between 2008 and 2016, as she convincingly worked her way through a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Doctorate Degree, a Ph.D., and even received the Excellence in Doctoral Studies Award from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
CRCF Provides Funding for Falconer Region
The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation recently awarded grants to twelve organizations in the Falconer region, thanks to funding from the Falconer Region Community Fund and Donald R. Swanson Memorial Fund.
First Covenant Church Partners with Community Foundation
Since 1972, First Covenant Church has administered four scholarship funds in support of members and families of their congregation. This included having a scholarship selection process, including a volunteer committee to oversee selections.
Randolph Organizations receive $16,000 from John Edward McLaughlin Family Fund
The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation recently awarded $16,000 in grants to organizations in Randolph, NY thanks to the John Edward McLaughlin Family Fund, an endowment fund established to support charitable activities in Randolph, NY.

Captain David Bentley Award Supports Sheriff’s Academy Graduates
In a word, Captain David Bentley provided the people of the Chautauqua County area with dedication; dedication to his family, his profession, and the safety of those in his community. In his honor, The Captain David Bentley Award has been established to support similarly dedicated graduates of Jamestown Community College’s Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Academy.
AAUW Jamestown Branch Honors its Heritage
The Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021 and closed out 2022 by establishing a permanently endowed scholarship at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
Bearach Wilcox Scholarship Fund
Losing a child creates an unfillable void in one’s life. For some families, establishing a legacy that keeps their child’s name present can help their grieving process. This was what led Gayle and Barry Wilcox to establish a fund to remember their son, Bearach after his sudden passing.
Lions Club Remembers Longtime Member
Chuck Telford was well known and recognized in the community from his career in media sales and from his 50+ years of service with the Jamestown Lions Club. To remember and honor that legacy, fellow members established the Jamestown Lions Club Chuck Telford Award.
