Lions Club Remembers Longtime Member

Chuck Telford was well known and recognized in the community from his career in media sales, most recently with Media One Group. His longtime accounts appreciated the way he always brought energy and enthusiasm to their projects or businesses.

Chuck carried that enthusiasm to his involvement with the Jamestown Lions Club, where he was a member for more than 50 years. “It’s funny that when he first joined, he was the youngest member,” said Jerri Telford, Chuck’s wife. “At the time of his passing, he was the oldest so it really came full circle for him.”

To remember and honor that legacy, fellow members established the Jamestown Lions Club Chuck Telford Award earlier this year. “He was a firm believer in our mission to assist individuals who are blind, visually or hearing impaired,” said Guy Ditonto, Jamestown Lions Club member. “One of his favorite activities was our annual tag days fundraiser. He knew most of the people passing by and because he believed in our work so deeply, it was nothing for him to ask them to donate.”

Not only did he leave his mark on the Lions Club locally, but Chuck was well known among the other clubs in WNY, regularly attending training sessions so he could network and connect with members.

Each year, a graduating senior from Jamestown High School will be recognized for qualities just like those Chuck possessed - integrity, a positive outlook and a willingness to help others. “It is such an honor to see Chuck remembered this way,” said Jerri. “Our family is deeply touched by this expression of love and respect for him.”

Donations to the Jamestown Lions Club Chuck Telford Award can be mailed to the Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, or online with a credit card by clicking here.
