Undersheriff Richard D. Telford Memorial Award Fund Recognizes Dedicated Member of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department

Undersheriff Richard D. Telford

The family and friends of Rich Telford recently established the Undersheriff Richard D. Telford Memorial Award Fund in memory of the Undersheriff who passed away in September.

In his 30 plus years working with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, he served as Deputy, Sergeant Communications Division, Lieutenant Patrol, Lieutenant Courts, Captain, and ending his career as the Undersheriff. He performed as Team Leader of the Fire Investigation team. Rich graduated from class 279 at the FBI National Academy, and was also a member of the New York State Sheriff's Association.

Telford spent many years teaching the DARE Program in public schools and volunteered with the Jamestown Community Learning Council (JCLC). He instructed at the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Academy, where he taught Ethics. Through this involvement, he directly impacted hundreds of Academy graduates, and, in turn, invested in law enforcement throughout the County.

“It means a lot that we will remember Rich by recognizing a graduate who demonstrates his character and commitment to public safety,” said Amanda Telford, Rich’s wife. “This is a way to honor his legacy and remember him.”

Donations to grow the Undersheriff Richard D. Telford Memorial Award Fund can be made online at crcf.me/telford or by mailing a check to Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
