Southwestern Soccer Donates to the Lindell Fund

The Southwestern Boys Varsity Soccer team recently donated $1,000 to the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation for the Janet Lindell Scholarship. The donation was made in honor of Andy Lindell, a senior member of the team and Janet’s son.

The money was raised as part of the team’s Horse Pie Bingo Fundraiser. Dollars were also used to support general team needs.

According to Jason Deering, Southwestern Boys Varsity Soccer head coach, this year’s team has been incredibly close and wanted to do something to support Andy and his family after his mom lost her battle with cancer in 2021.

“This year’s team was probably the closest team we’ve had in the five years I’ve been coaching,” Deering said. “They are an incredibly supportive group and really care for one another. It didn’t surprise me that they chose to do something for Andy and his family.”

The Janet Lindell Scholarship will present its first scholarship award this spring to a graduating Southwestern Central School senior majoring in education.

“It’s been just overwhelming,” said James Lindell, Janet’s husband. “On behalf of our family we are extremely grateful for the kindness that’s been extended to us.”
