Primary Job Purpose

 Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Officer has a crucial role dedicated to catalyzing impactful donor relationships. Through robust relationship building, cultivation, and fundraising efforts, the Development Officer will provide exceptional service in gift management and communications. This position is in Jamestown, NY and requires residency in Chautauqua County.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Stewardship Programs and Strategies: Implement stewardship programs and strategies for current donors, past Board members, fund contacts, and Legacy Society members.

  • Donor Inquiries: Respond promptly to inquiries from prospective donors about establishing new funds or making estate planning arrangements. This includes scheduling appointments and preparing necessary materials before and after meetings.

  • Outreach Strategy: Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies to prospective donors and professional advisors, in partnership with the Executive Director. Collaborate with the Brand & Marketing Officer to prepare and distribute a quarterly newsletter for professional advisors.

  • Fundraising Campaign: Work directly with a fundraising consultant to implement a comprehensive campaign in conjunction with the Foundation's 50th anniversary.

  • Legacy Society Engagement: Coordinate communication and engagement with current Legacy Society members and strategically reach out to prospective members. This includes overseeing events and engagement opportunities like the Legacy Lunch and John D. Hamilton Award dinner.

  • Stewardship Strategies: Monitor and implement stewardship strategies, coordinating correspondence outside of donation processing. Adapt to trends and changing needs of both donors and the Foundation.

  • CRM and Data Management: Work proactively and responsively with coworkers to maximize software tools for Foundation data management. Utilize CRM features to track opportunities and maintain historical context.

  • Fund Development Systems: Implement systems and approaches for fund development, working with the Brand & Marketing Officer on targeted messaging for specific audiences and ensuring appropriate recipient lists are used.

  • Community Impact Collaboration: Collaborate with Community Impact and Scholarship Officers to gather relevant information for donor and fund contact communication. Share opportunities for pass-through gifts and co-investments by donor advisors and others.

Education and Skills

  • A Bachelors’ degree and 3-5 years of development experience in the non-profit sector is preferred.

  • Proven experience and success in donor relationship building and fundraising.

  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills, as well as the capability to foster and develop relationships with current and potential partners, donors, and volunteers.

  • Position has external contacts within the community, which require considerable tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in using CRM software and data management tools.

The total compensation range for this job is $75,000 - $95,000 annually.
