For many people church membership makes them a part of a community that provides religious education, friendship, fun, and a very real, caring connection to others. Such was the case for Jessie L. Nelson, a long-time member of Zion Covenant Church of Jamestown, who passed away in July at the age of 98.
Although she was unable to attend church services towards the end of her life, her church community often spent time with her at her residence.
According to her daughter, Joanne, Barb Willow, a member of the church’s Visitation Committee visited Jessie regularly, often bringing her dog, Molly with her.
“My mother looked forward to these visits (with Barb and Pastor Rick Miller),” Joanne said. “They had wonderful conversations.”
After her mother’s passing, Joanne felt compelled to do something to show her appreciation for the Church’s caring support of her mother. She recently created the Zion Covenant Church of Jamestown Fund, in memory of her mother, to support ongoing needs at the church.
“I was blessed to live with Mom for 11 years,” Joanne said. “My hope is that this gift will help them continue to do what is making a difference to many.”
