Animals have always been part of Gail Donus’ life. Her love and concern for those creatures left homeless and abandoned moved her to create the Gail Donus Fund for the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
This endowment fund, established in honor of her parents and administered through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, will provide medical care and behavioral rehabilitation for shelter animals, thus ensuring their health and safety forever.
Gail says her love for animals, cats in particular, came from her father.
“Back in his day, I suppose it was deemed ‘unmanly’ to be fond of kittens,” Gail said, “but Dad never met one he didn’t like.”
Gail currently has three cats in her home: Jasper; Torbie (part tortoise shell, part tabby); and Tasha.
“My cats are my family and I care for them as such,” she said. “I want all animals to receive the same kind of treatment; I’m very concerned about their care.”
